Updated: Jan 15

Getting ready for your dog's massage session is important to ensure they get the most out of the experience. Whether it’s their first time or they’re a seasoned client, following a few simple steps can help your canine companion feel comfortable, safe, and ready to relax.

We’ve put together this easy Pre-Massage Checklist to guide you through the preparation process.

1. Complete the client intake form

Before the session, it’s crucial to fill out the client intake form and submit it back to us prior to your dog's massage session.

  • Why is this important?: This form gives us valuable information about your dog’s health, behavior, and special needs, helping us tailor the session for their specific requirements.

  • When should I send it?: Please fill out the form sent to your email and email it back to us at least 24 hours before to give us time to review.

2. Schedule a walk or playtime before their massage

A relaxed dog is a happy dog!

  • What to do: Take your dog for a short walk or engage in light play 30–60 minutes pre-massage. This helps them release any pent-up energy, making them more receptive to enjoying their session.

  • Why it works: Physical activity helps to calm the mind and prepare the body for relaxation.

3. Keep mealtime light

Nobody likes to lie down for a massage with a full stomach—and your dog is no different!

  • Key tip: Avoid feeding your dog a large meal within two hours of the session.

  • Why?:A lighter stomach ensures your dog feels comfortable throughout the session.

4. Create a calm environment

The environment plays a big role in how relaxed your dog feels.

  • What to prepare: Set up a quiet, familiar area at home with minimal distractions. Turn off loud devices, dim the lights if possible, and make sure other pets (and children if you have any) are in a separate space.

  • How it helps: A peaceful space allows your dog to settle into the session without stress.

5. Gather key items

Having a few essentials ready can make the massage experience smoother.

  • Items to prepare:

    • A leash or harness (if needed for comfort or control).

    • A towel or mat for your dog to lie on during the massage.

    • Treats or toys to keep your dog calm and happy.

  • Pro tip: Familiar items like their favorite toy or blanket can also provide a sense of security.

Why preparation matters

Preparing your dog for a massage isn’t just about making them comfortable—it’s about ensuring the session is as effective as possible. A relaxed and prepared dog will benefit more from the therapeutic effects of the massage, leading to improved well-being and relaxation.

Final reminder

If your dog has any new injuries, illnesses, or sensitivities since submitting the intake form, let us know before the session. Additionally, make sure their vaccinations are up-to-date for everyone’s safety.

By following these steps, you’re not just preparing your dog for a massage—you’re setting the stage for a relaxing, enjoyable experience that both you and your furry friend can look forward to! If you have any questions or need help filling out the client intake form, feel free to reach out to us.
